This is an awesome cameo and good ivory ones are getting harder and harder to find!! This gorgeous antique Victorian (circa around 1870) cameo is carved from real animal ivory. This is a much sought after subject and unusually large at 2 and 5/8 inches long by 1 and 3/4 inches wide. It is a very high 3/4 of an inch relief ivory cameo deeper than most that I have ever seen! It weighs a whopping 36 grams!!
The ivory is in excellent condition with no age lines at all!
This is an extra large and heavy masterfully carved, intricately carved example of an antique ivory cameo that will greatly enhance any collection!!
This is possibly a mourning pin given the countenance of her face. These have sold for more than my asking price recently and given the scarcity of these, it would be a good investment or a really nice gift. One recently sold for 1300.00 on Ruby Lane. See last photo, it is a Victorian era photo of electric shock experiment. Her expression is very similar to the brooch.
